Fortunately, I have several friends with '23 Loars. They be the best!

Currently I play a Dudenbostel F5 (photo below) and a Flatiron A5-1. I have a Duff F5 on order (from Australia). The Duff is equal to the Gilchrist, and I KNOW what I'm talking about. He's the next big private builder.

Gilchrist "was" $15k. He's now stopped taking orders until further notice, expected to be around 2005. Last used Gilchrist went for $16.5k.

Gilchrist is considering North Carolina and New York State for his new home. That's a solid rumor.

I don't know about Freddy at the Violin Shop. I do know Charlie Derrington. Nice, nice fellow. He's the right guy for Gibson mandolins. He's brought them back.

That's beautiful hank!

I never really got into bluegrass music, but I gotta admit, mandolins have a sound that is really appealing to me. I might have to try learning to play one, someday...

hey Nelson.

I remember Freddy/Violin Shop. He's in Bellmeade area of west Nashville off Broadway/West End.......... way out there.

He was playing fiddle with Larry Cordle and Lonesome Standard Time when I last saw him.

He's friends with mutual buddies. I don't know him personally.

I recently had my Gilchrist F-5 appraised by George Gruhn at $25,000.
1999 model with curved fingerboard, x-bracing, larger width board options.
Corresponded with Steve Gilchrist by e-mail, he does not know pricing of next
new batch anticipated in 2005.

Last used Gilchrist I know of went for $18k in Northern NJ area.

I have a friend who is writing a book on Steve Gilchrist and his Mandolins. He has a number of them, including the quartet. The market has taken a huge jump as far as Gilchrists are concerned.

A Dudenbostel sold used last week, privately, for $28.5k. I'm holding on to mine.

Is he looking for photos of Gilchrist Instruments? I'd be glad to have mine in there!!!!!

He's collaborating with Steve Gilchrist, I know that he owns quite a few Gilchrists himself inlcuding the "quartet", If your's is a rare model he might be interested.

Sorry to ask....but which particular models are considered rare?

Plankspanker

I guess the rare models are the those that Steve Gilchrist has made a single or very few; some with features, wood selection or colours not found on his regular models. Blonde Mandolins, Mandolas and or course his Piccolo model come to mind.
