That is very interesting Greg, I have never heard of those. That is one of my main gripes about Taylors the bass response sux. I would really like to find one and demo it.Are they a production piece? I had a Taylor 810-ce and I sold it, while the guitar sounded good I could not play it when I had my Martins and Gibsons which were much bassier and tonally diverse starring me right in the face. That sounds Like a Taylor I might actually buy and keep assuming its not tonally dead.

Taylor has just completed revamping their Dreadnaught guitars to attain the "better" bass response. I'm guessing to compete better with Martin, imho. I like Taylors but I want a better definition in the bass tone. hank

I've not experienced that. When you put it on tape, i've never had to add much bass, it pretty much cuts through the mix.. But, every Martin that has been recorded at our studio, including mine, (A 28), i've had to cut the low/mid - and lows to bring it out in the mix.. And usually, we NEVER record with the onboards.. We always use a Neumann or equivalent..

Weird..

Ain't it funny how all our ears are made the same, but hears something totally different..

I'm a firm believer in listening and checking out what you guys hear, and compare it to my ears..

Maybe i'm deaf...
:^)

But, there is no wrong or right, just different... It's all good..

JoeP: You've just hit on our differences. Yes, recording-wise the Taylors have got to be fantastic. hank's basing his humble opinion on playing in an all-acoustic bluegrass format. This is where the Taylors that I've been exposed to don't hold up.

I got a beautiful Taylor 510 a few years ago in a trade. Wonderful guitar by itself, exquisite workmanship. It was "thin" in a bg situation where you have to fight off banjos.

I played Taylor's new dreadnaughts at IBMA a few weeks ago. They will compete. hank

Cool Hanky,, I would think, just listening to my Taylor, that it would have a hard time being heard in a BG situation..

I gotta check out the new Taylors, and the new Martins, and the new....... ,, and the new.........................

It never ends...

I have a 710 with a 3 piece back. SN #6690 that I bought new in '88. It has a great bass. The lows sound like hitting the bass keys on a piano. I never could figure out why they changed the shape of their dreadnoughts. I've never played a new one since I bought it that comes close.

When I was shopping for my last acoustic, I found I like the older, mid '90's Taylors, better than the new guitars in 02. To me the aged spruce top that has been played reg. for 10 years, is going to sound better than a brand new one. Even if Taylor realized that Martin's really do sound better...usually, so they changed the bracing, and added some hype. I wasn't too impressed with the offerings in the mid price range.
My only complaint with my 810 http://www.lilypix.com/photos/showalbum.php?aid=3540&uuid=1331
Is the cheap looking plastic binding. I like the tone, and I like Martin's too. But for a $1500 acoustic, a good used 810 is hard to beat.

I have one. I bought it brand new about 11 years ago. I love it because it is so loud. The store I bought it from didn't know what WMB stood for, so I telephoned Taylor Guitars in El Cajon CA and told the receptionist my question, and she said "Hold on, I'll transfer you to production." Who answers the phone at production? None other than Bob Taylor himself! He told me "Wmb means with more bracing or with more bass, yeah yeah that's it, with more bass, anyway, that guitar is made to be played hard."
