It's just my opinion but I didn't like them. I thought they were stiff and unresponsive and I didn't care for the tone.

Speaking on acoustic guitars here, I think it depends on the guitar. I find for a very bright sounding guitar the Elixers are a great string (prefer the nano-web). However on a mellow or soft sounding guitar they may not be the best choice. To me strings are like pickups, matching to the particular guitar is very important, blanket statements don't work well here.
We have guitars that get them and guitars that don't...see what I'm saying? :spose

I had a Brand Nu Guitar with them on & they Crapped out !!!!!!!
I don't "play out" other than some bluegrass stuff. I prefer the Martin SP+ strings. Great tone on my several different brands of acoustics. Spose is right that each guitar has its own personality and requirements.

I don't feel that my opinion constitutes a "blanket statement". I tried them a couple of times each on two very tonally different acoustic guitars. The tone of the strings are not my biggest concern, I didn't care for the tone but I can't say it was bad, just not my taste. The main reason I didn't care for the nanoweb is that I didn't feel they were responsive to subtle touch. Sorry, this is just my opinion based on limited experience with four sets of strings. If you like them that's great, they have a place in a diverse marketplace but I choose not to use them.

DrewBlanc -
I was referring to the first post , if they were worth the $$
I wasn't referring to your post. I meant when it comes to acoustic guitar strings in general, blanket statements about strings don't apply. Same goes for pickups in electrics etc. If they don't work for you, fine. I'm not selling them or anything and I'm not saying they work with all guitars....
can't we all just get along:bh
My Taylor loves them.. My Martin didn't.. Your exactly right Spose.. Some do, some don't.. The ones that do sound really, really good, the ones that don't , sound pretty flat..
But, i go though about 2-3 sets of DR Phospor's to every one set of Elixirs... They do last...

I like em. The Guild LOVES em. :)

i have sweaty hands which kill strings afer two or three days...and for this reason alone i like elixirs on my d-28-they last a long time, and although they have an unsual sound-brighter but not as full-they retain the new string cripsness a long time and reduce fingerslide noise-as for worth the money -it depends on how often you changes strings-i like them because i change string about 1/3 as often-i still use john pearse too-about $3 less per set than elixirs- ilike them too becuase if you dont play your accoustic daily they havea longer 'shelf life' on the guitar methinks

I liked 'em ok, but metal fingerpicks chew the coating off the strings, so I don't use them.

I despise Elixirs (dull and flat sounding), and was very unimpressed with the Martin SP+s (just ok sounding, but not very good). But to my surprise, I love the coated D'Addarios. Check them out.

I play alot. 3-4 nights a week, and I think any brand of coated strings are a must if you play live alot. You have to match the brand to the guitar. However, if I was to record ever, I would go to a phospour bronze in a skinny minute. Just like everything else, you gotta find what your ears want to hear. Happy ears, happy hands.

I just had a set on a Gibson CF-100 that I just got & I hated them...not crisp enough, & I really didn't like the way they feel.

Try the D'addario EXP product the EXP 16's are 12-53.
a. They are $10.00 per set as opposed to $13.00 for elixers.
b. They have far more shimmer on the top than the elixers.
c. They have a VERY elastic feeling that is great for fingerstyle, and it's great for flatpicking and whomping too but I LOVE them for fingerstyle.
I can get 10 weeks of great tone out of EXP's on my D-15 and OM 16 GT. I record with them. I found elixers to be stiff and they got dull in a hurry...and $13.00..ouch!

Ahhh Elixors...I love them... until I tried D'Addario EXP's which were cheaper and sounded great and last a long time. I have them on my Taylor Baby, Gibson LG12, LP Deluxe, LP Custom, Peavey Koa Unity Bass and my Washburn AE12.
