. . . at this here joint? (Yawn). I remember going in a place called "Cafe Wha?" in NYC. It was in a cute, but affected, shopping mall called Greenwitch village. This must have been late summer 1962. There were beatnick wannabees all over that place! A guy named Bob Dillon was playing there. You could drink beer if you were 18 in that place. Another place nearby was called "The Square Circle" - you could drink beer there too! The Square Circle served FREE peanuts, and you were SUPPOSED to throw the shells on the floor. No kidding, you really were! The peanut shells came past your ankles everywhere! It was cool (except in the men's john). So you could drive to NYC, drink beer, and you woulnd't have to buy food, what with all the free peenuts (that is what they turn into after the beer which you are ALLOWED to drink)! I wonder if my kids ever drove to NYC and didn't tell me?
nice joint you got here. What time is happy hour? Who checks I.D.s? (Probably Joe, and Dave's the bouncer). Does LILY wait tables, or just run the games in the back room?
If my wife calls, tell here you didn't see me.
Gotta go!
Dan
Good Morning Dan!
Yes the name Cafe Wah, is a play on that cafe's name, just with a guitar world twist to it...Considering Nelson lives in Brooklyn, and even used to gig in the village, I guess it's not surprising he had the inspiration to come up with it. It's cool that you actually were there in the 60's. Did you ever see Dylan play? I think Hendrix was there as well...
Anyway, in case you don't go back to the introductions, here is the playbill for the entertainment at our Cafe Wah ;)

. . . you silly! I knew you were playing with words again, you intellectual you!
And of course I heard Bobby Dillon play. It was before his first alblum came out. I bought the first Bob Dylan alblum sold in Michigan. He was my hero (still is among the top of my hero-list).
Cafe Wahtchamacallit. What time is happy hour?
Our band "Dogtown" wants to play at the cafe. How far in advance are you booked?
thanks, dan
