has anyone here ever had an acoustic with an adjustable bridge? ( height)

I've heard people say they've changed them to the standard acoustic bridge & they sounded better, wondering if I should bother?

I have a middle of the road fender acoustic ( F65 ) with this.

basically there is a bolt on either side of the nut that raises it up/down, I guess because there isn't a firm contact between nut/wood people prefer the standard type?

thx

We used to replace Gibson adj. saddles alot in the 60s and 70s. Still would on many, but I would consider NOT doing it on certain early-60s "vintage" Gibsong Hummingbirds and a couple others.

Gibson started the adj. bridge saddle deal. I never liked any models that had it (sorry). Alot of hardware and wood needs to be carefully and properly replaced, and you will need to have a new bridge made.

But sure it will sound LOTS better. (Imagine how bad a Les Paul would sound with a wood bridge - why should an acoustic guitar sound good with less than a well fit bone bridge saddle)?

I don't know that much about Fender acoustics, though, but I know enough to know that many are not made in the US.

jeez, I forgot all about this thread!

thx for the answer Dan.

I was thinking of just replacing the saddle with a bone one?

the rest of the bridge looks conventional......if I had to though, I suppose the whole bridge would be easy enough, it's a standard size, I could just remove it & put on the new one.

the guitar is a plywood japanese Fender from around '76 or so.
