It seems that neck volutes are somewhat common on some of the less expensive Mandolins out there. Are these viewed as negatively as the volutes on the old Gibby Les Pauls?

I'd say the volutes are a factor in the inexpensive part. I've not met anyone with an opinion on that issue however.

What brand/model are you referring to? hank

Hey Hank,

I was just browsing the Michael Kelly site when I noticed it on the back of one of their "better" mandolins.

I dunno if this link will work, but I noticed it on the back of the neck shot of the blond Legacy.

Thanks for the info Nelson, that is very interesting.

Basically, I have played guitar for a while, but am heading feet first into the world of mandolins. The more I look, the more I realize the good mandolins are expensive, no way to get around that. Just gonna try and find the best starting mando I can get and work from there. Maybe I should sell my LP historic. :D

I looked at the link. That looks fine to me. I've heard good things about the MK's. I haven't gotten my hands on one yet.
