Anyone else have one? It is my favorite acoustic guitar, it sings like bird.Thoughts?Questions?
Gazza what does the "H" stand for....I assume the D stands for dreadnaught, correct? And the V?
I had a friend who used to play a D-28. Same thing???
I LOVED that guitar!!!!

H...Herringbone(purfling)
V....Vintage(appointments)
I love regular D-28's but these HD's just sound insane.The bracing is scalloped and shifted foward giving a real nice open tone.These guitar are so loud!
Ahhhh.....thanks for filling me in.
Got photos????;)

I bought a new HD-28 about 3 years ago. It is an icredible guitar and is getting better with each playing. Martin is making some really fine instruments these days.

Gazza,
I have a D-28 GE if you are serious. Drop me an email
Tim
The Martin D28 GE's are incredible. I hope to have one one day.
My only Martin now is a '99 HD28LSV.
LS = Large soundhole
V = Vintage
Similar to the HD28V, but with large soundhole, red spruce top in lieu of sitka, unmarked/bound fingerboard. Commonly referred to as the Tony Rice model. It will knock down walls.

I played an HD28LSV the other day at a store near here and it was absolutely killer. Man, did that thing project!
Mike, in May of 2000, Martin quit building the LSV with red spruce tops. They now use sitka. They're still good. The red spruce top is a $300 - $400 markup now.
Gazza

I was gonna ask about the red spruce.Have any pics?
Mike Hansen
08-20-2002, 05:27 PM
Have you played em both, Hank? You like the spruce better? Got a picture? Had enough questions yet? :D
Mike Hansen

Great minds :D
frankly, I prefer the red spruce topped LSV's. HOWEVER, I've played a few with sitka that are VERY nice. I'm not a snob, what sounds good is OK to me. Red spruce has a drive to it that's "old" sounding, imho.
I'll try to find a jpeg to post. I've got something, back in a minute.

Not to jump in late or anything but this brings up something a buddy and I were talking about lately.
I really like the idea of pure acoustic from Martins, since they really excel in getting *that* acoustic tone. But if you want to play plugged in on your acoustic, then Taylor is the way to go: plays like butter and you can tweak out your sound...
Just my thoughts. You know what opinions are like...;)
