I've got a 2000 HD28 with the stock bridge pins. Has anyone swapped out the stock pins on a recent issue Martin for bone? Is there a substantial improvement in tone?

I just got through changing to bone pins on a 2001 HD-28V. It definitely changed the tone. It seems like it tightened the bass response and enriched the harmonic content on the treble strings. At first it sounded kind of pingy on the top end but after the strings broke in a few hours it richened up. I had to change the strings because I ordered the 2a size pins like the size charts will tell you and ended up shipping them back with one of the plastic pins to be measured because they were a little large for the pin holes. I would have preferred to have switched them out one at a time with the same strings to judge the tone change better but that was not to be. The 2c pins were a much better fit,I would recommend ordering them.
I have (in the past) added bone pins. They add a bit more brightness and clarity to my ear.
