Anyone been close and familiar with the Gibson J-200 pre-war Western from the Bozeman plant? This is the reissue that has many features from the '39
Ray Whitely model.

I owned a '93 J-200 that was brazilian a few years back and it was a bonafide tone-turd; and more recently a J-185 that is one of the better playing acoustics I've come across.

Thanks for the response, not too much activity here, like a cemetary.
I've got an AJ too, like it

Yeah, I always wanted one and started looking a couple years ago. Just about all the ones here were in GCs; seems like every store had at least two. Aside from the neglected set-ups, I found the necks all to be a bit smaller than the very few original ones that I've handled.

I came across one of the Luthier's Choice models and noticed that the neck was bigger than the models that were in Guitar Centers, so was the price too as it was one of the Brazilian ones.

It was luck to run across a new one, that had been part of a special run for Yamano. It was in the Buy-Sell on the UMGF. It was advertised as having 30s specs, and the back, side & fretboard were Madagasscar RW. It was in Japan, but what the hell, two days later the DHL truck dropped it off.

It's a 2006 model, has great tone, and a comfortable feel. The wood is nice on it. It has a very strong chocolate smell too. The only goofy thing is that it does not have a label. The serial number is stamped inside on the neck block, and it has the typical Gibson Custom Shop logo/decal right behind the nut. I've tried to research why there's no label; Bozeman said they were shipped that way, but I couldn't find out why.

Just picked up a new Country and Western Limited Reissue from Wildwood.

Outstanding guitar. I played Taylors, Martins and Collings and this particular Gibson, has IT!

A nice addition to my J45 Zebrawood.

Gibson has plenty of detractors, however Montana is turning out some great acoustics.
