Maybe I've been an electric player for too many years, but I've never heard of Collings. Fill me in on 'er, please. Why?
Because she is, as you said, "purty". I love that headstock!!! 'Tis gorgeous, indeed. :yah

Beautiful!! Where's the rest? Or is it too ugly to show?
Bluespckr. - Collings is a small (rather small) maker of top end acoustic guitars (and electrics recently also) building pre-war style guitars in the spirit of Gibson and Martin. If I'm not mistaken, they are located in Austin TX.
Here's a few pics:

I purchased this guitar from the winner of the 1994 Winfield National Flatpicking Championships. It's never been played, minty fresh and really, really good. The winner is a great friend and I'm originally from Kansas so the guitar has some mojo for me personally. :)
I should add that the "wheat" inlay is only on guitars contributed to this contest by Collings. They are very scarce.
Collings is a great builder of acoustic guitars, mandolins and, now, electric guitars. They're fit and finish is second to none.

Nice, Hank....that is a beauty...
I've heard nothing but good things about Collings guitars, though I haven't been lucky enough to play one...
That wheat inlay one the hearstock makes it that much more unique...
Thanks guys. Yes, playing time is needed. :)

So what does that thing sound like Hank? Is it loud, like an old martin? Is it broke in yet? It looks like it's a little young to be broken in?

It's been opening up. It really hasn't been played much in 12 years. It has the clean sitka balanced sound with forward-X bracing. Therefore, it sort of smooth and powerful at the same time.
This is Collings' standard D-2H with the wheat inlay. You can get the D-2HA which is Indian rosewood b/s with Adirondack (red spruce) on the top. They also have a D-2HABZ version with Brazilian rosewood.
Congratulations...Very nice Hank. That is a rare one! I bet it just kills. Collings Dreads are loud & proud, and they're cut to perfection. The hdstk inlay is a departure from what usally comes out Bill Collings shop...I'm guessing it will quite collectable in due time?
I also scored a Collings recently, but not a Dread, an SJ! I wanted something w/ a little more rumble to it than an OM...and some of that tasty Collings 'bling'.
I think I've found a new Heartthrob...(edit: ebay Pics are gone, so reposted this one:

Collings guitars are the finest acoustics on the planet. Just my humble opinion of course.:) My friend is a Collings dealer and has a great selection of them. He even has the new Collings electric guitars which sound glorious! Wish I had the extra cash to snag one.

I think I've said it here somewhere before that the best acoustic guitar I ever laid my hands on was a Colllings at Canyon Music Woodworks in Durango CO. Can't remember the model since I wasn't that familiar with them. I know that some of our more traditional brands are just as good but there was something about the tone and playability of this particular guitar that really stood out. Still does.
