Anyone have any thoughts, opinions experiences they could share about this model. I've found a mid-80s 'Dove' in very good condition, for sale. The historic series looks very nice. I've read some very encouraging reviews on this model.

I have a 2005 model of this guitar and it is great.
Plays great, sounds great, and looks great.
If I had to get rid of all my guitars it would be the last to go!

Oh by the way,

Sorry, but I only could have posted the "I have nothing funny to add to this thread! smilie! I don't know much about the "Dove" and I usually prefer round shoulder Jumbos. Sorry again - but I'm here!? :wail

I found out the guitar is a 1980 Gibson Dove bought brand new and only one owner.
She says she hasn't played it much over the past several years.
It needs some tweaking here and there but it sounds/plays great. It's totally different from my j-45.
I don't know what would be reasonable asking price.
I can't find any on e-bay and the new ones are not comparable (I think they're better) and certainly worth a whole lot more.
I think my interest in the guitar has made the seller a little reluctant to go through with the sale.
I think she's expecting to get $1500 to $1600 for it. Wha do ya think?

Boy, am I ever the wrong one to give advice about buying a guitar. I say anytime you get the itch, scratch it! I'm not that familiar with the Dove, but one of my brothers used to have an old Hummingbird that was a great sounding guitar. Wish I could be of more help.

You are more than likely correct on the quality of the newer ones & not pricing this one based on the new model pricing.
I can tell you this though;
When I was in the Service one of the guys that played with us had a '77 model Gibson Dove that had a great tone & playability that we all coveted.

I don't want to offend the seller ( I know her personally) but I think she's not being realistic about the asking price.
While I find the guitar to desirable, I don't think the 'Dove' is a highly sought after 'Gibson' guitar or maybe it's underrated and therefore under valued. I'm not sure, I'm just asking.
It is a product from the 'Norlin years'. Perhaps that influences the value. I have LP from the same year ('80) that I would have would have great difficulty parting with unless someone is willing to come up with do-re-mi.
I can relate to her reluctance to sell. The difference is, I play my LP all the time, the dove has apparently been sittting dormant for a long time.

No offense to any parties. However, the Doves from that era reflect the Norlin influence. They are "nice" guitars with realitively little tonal pallet from which to draw. In other words, the sound like cardboard.

Again, no offense intended. :##
