I am trying to find a set of strings that I like with my dobro.

Its a round neck Hound Dog model with passive Fishman pickup and 12fret neck.
I have tried the standard light Phos/Bronze D'Addarios but I'm not over the moon with them. They're OK my Yamaha Acoustic but not really clean on my dobro.

Anyone care to give me any ideas on what they use? Make and gauge would be nice.
I use 3 tunings, standard, open G and open D.
Thanks eh?

Hi Uncle Lyle! I am using Newtone "Michael Messer" strings, approved by "National Resophonic" (they are permitted to use the logo on the packaging). There are two different gauges, I am using the heavier one, .016 - .056 for open D and G. Since you want to play standard, too, you might prefer the lighter set. When I attended one of Bob Brozman's shows recently I noticed he's using John Pearse Resophonic strings - some of the packs were scattered around, guess he had to change some strings before the show. Other than that I prefer Phosphor Bronze.

I'm using the John Pearce on both my new 05 National Trincone and my 31 Duolian. The new Nat came with them from the factory I think. Sound crisp and snappy enough for me, but I heard Pyramid strings may be good too--but not sure if they make a set for resonator guitars and if that even matters, as long as you have the gauge you like for the sytle you play.

Well, with 2 recommendations, I'm going to try the John Pearce and see how they work on the dobro. I'll let you know .... As soon as I can find them that is.

Of course I can just order them online too.....

another vote for john pearce strings they keep the tone for a while, and last just as long or longer than any other brand I've tried.

go to www.myspace.com/thelegendaryporchpounders , there is an example of john pearce strings, tophat amp, highlander pickup, bastard resonator (johnson body, old national cone, neck by john walsh cimmaron guitars) in the song "cadillac car".
