I've got an HD 28V & was wondering what height the strings are on average at the nut (first fret) on yours.
The Martin spec calls for .024" max but mine at the low E is.018".
This is low for me and I want to go higher but don't know how much when I get a nut replacement on it.

Also what are your string heights at the 12th fret? Mine were 7/64ths & 5/64ths & I had it lowered to 6/64ths & 4/64ths.
The slightly higher action was fine but I can do so many more styles on it now.
This is also when the low height at the nut became obvious even though I had noticed the slots too deep before.

Hi bluesjuke - glad to see you made it over here! Welcome!
I don't have a Martin like yours, but I was to post something similar concerning my Advanced Jumbo RI - although I'm not uncomfortable with its action, I have the feeling it could do a little better so it would play more easily - I'm just scared to mess up when working on an acoustic. I need to do some measurements and compare them with your setup.

Mine plays good Tom but when I had my pickup installed I also had the action lowered slightly & if I slam the strings a little too much I get a slight open string buzzing in the lower fret area.

I also suspect that the Luthier reduced my neck relief instead of lowering the saddle. That's ok because then I can correct that but the nut slots are a little too deep & I am using the same guage strings as came from the factory (medium).

I'm trying to find what height I can go to without getting too difficult in the lower frets.
I don't mind 'fighting' it a bit & actually would prefer some resistance without going to an extreme.

Good to be here!
