If thats a piece of maple that could make a killer top for an acoustic.I have played a couple flame maple top acoustics and they sound very good.

Nelson my thoughts on maple for an acoustic top are that if the guitar is done right the guitar can sound very good. However from what I have experienced I don't see a maple top very beneficial though,I would stick to the spruce tops.I would use that maple wood for back and sides personally. Maple to me has a a very crisp, artciulate sound with a good combination of highs and lows.Maple is very lively sounding.Imo spruce does the job for a top just fine.

Ed, that's just the kind of quilt that comes from Shorty's in Mapleton. This is why you don't have any from him yet, the flame stuff is harder to come by here. Lots of quilt tho...

If you guys like that type of quilt, it comes from my neighborhood..I can get tons of it!
