My frets are getting pretty worn out on my 000-28ec. I'm thinking of having it refreted with larger frets than stock. I was wondering if anyone else has had this done and what size of frets did you go with.
I'm also considering going stainless steel. The frets that came on the guitar got worn out pretty quick.
Thanks

Not sure about refretting anything. I have an old '76 Yamaha that still has the original frets in it. Played it every day for 30 years never seems to be a problem. Has a few dimples in the frets but after getting them dressed ocassionally it still plays pretty well.
I'm not sure the value in re-fretting so I'm interested in anyone answering this question too.

If you wear frets quick, stainless is the way to go for sure. I have only ever seen them on electrics though.
The nice thing is wire is now readily available in many sizes. 2 years ago it was scarce.

I'm sure stainless frets would change the tone charactor of your guitar though,
More than likely make it much brighter.
If you went too big, it might throw your intonation off? Not a good thing! The new Martin Fingerstyle 1 guitar has larger than normal frets on it, that are supposedly a real plus...Everyone that has played it like them. I know I'd like a little bigger fretwire myself.

You might want to check out the new Knopfler "Ragpicker's Dream"
000-40S. It's a 12 fret slot head with Jumbo frets. Martin is supposed to showcase this model at the upcoming Summer NAMM show. While they haven't made a comparable 14 fret like the 000-28EC with large frets,
f you can live with a 14 fret D size,, a couple years ago, Martin released the HD40MK, which also has jumbo size frets.
