I'm thinking of buying a new Gibson J-45 (Standard production, I'm afraid I cannot afford a Rosewood sides and back model) I was wondering if anyone had any information/experiences good or bad with these guitars?
Cheers,
Chris.

Yeah it's quiet around here, thought I'd check in to soak some up--but I can tell you I really like just about everything about the J-45s: their really pretty, sound real good, play exceptionally well, and I think are priced right. I actually prefer the standard model over the Rosewood. Mahogany just seems right for this size guitar, nice balance of tones, good bass, crisp highs. The built-in pickup is cool too!

I just recently bought my first acoustic and I tried most of the major makes.
My only knock on Gibson was every single one I tried had the action about 1/4 of the frets and the damn things still had fret buzz. I know most guitars on display are not fully set up but it just turned me off the Gibson line.
I ended up going Taylor.

I had a rosewood J-45 and it was excellent, if you can find a good mahogany one, go for it!
I played a mahogany J-45 a couple of weeks ago that I fell in love with.
And I thought I was a rosewood addict!

I recommend the J-45. I just got one about 2 weeks ago and I can't put it down. I've been playing along time and I'm very happy with this guitar right from the git-go. When shopping for an acoustic, I played Martins, Taylors, Takamine, Guild as well as the gibson workingman, songwriter, advanced jumbo and Hummingbird. (loved most of them)
I took my time and did my research. What can I say the j-45 just spoke to me. Mind you, it is about personal taste and preference. The j-45 doesn't sound like a Martin. I played a '53 gibson j-50, it was sweet but I hesistated and it was gone.
The j-45 was a surprise gift from my wonderful wife. I haven't had a new acoustic guitar in over 20 years.
The J-45 is lightweight, beautiful finish just love the look and the smell of this guitar, yeah! it smells great too.3/4 size which I never noticed until the store guy pointed it out to me. It has sweet, warm, woody tone. Very full, rich sound. Good sound projection too. It has a certain 'classyness' in it's simplicity. An 'old-timey' feel to it but sturdy. It has to be sturdy because I play a lot professionally. You can plug this sweetheart in too but that's not real important to me. The j-45 is a guitar I can/will play for a long time and I will pass it on to my son... someday.
