View Full Version : Marquis
Just a note to those who like the Golden Era D-28's. Due to Brazilian supply/quality issues, Martin is no longer producing the D-28GE except for custom orders (and the price is through the roof!).
So ............ Martin introduced the D-28 Marquis at NAMM this summer. Essentially the same as the D-28GE with Indian Rosewood in place of Brazilian Rosewood. I played two at NAMM and would highly recommend the Marquis D-28. I believe they are to start arriving around the end of October.

Hank, how would you describe the difference in tone between the Marquis and the GE?
Thanks!
Tim
Tim, sorry for the delay.
I've been able to spend quality time with a Marquis along side my D-28GE. Both are incredible. Forget cost for the moment. The 28GE sounds "better" to my ear because of the quality of tone. Specifically, rounder and a bit richer. How's that for flakey descriptions.
If money's an issue, the Marquis is it. BTW, my Clarence White sounds like the Marquis with a bit less bass overtones. All have Adirondack tops.
Love 'dem Martins. hank :boobs
Thanks Hank! I've been thinking about trying a D-28GE and I guess since they are not going to be made anymore I better think quick! I may have to take a little trip up to Nashville and check 'em out!
Just pulled the trigger on a Marquis in sunburst. All I can say is WOW!! But, I did have to try several before I found a magic one. Very clear with alot of extended bass and not 'thuddy' like most Martins I've tried. Best acustic I've ever played.

Gotta love those Martins, eh?
I don't think that they've make a bad one anywhere in their line up ever.
