Are some of the new builder's Pricey?? i'm talking Acoustic & Electric" aren't there some Acoustic builders out there asking more than a New Martin D-28 GE" & if so is it not harder to get your money back" if you have to sell the Guitar??

Yes I think they are.I can't see shelling out the money for a custom acoustic when the company's like Martin,Gibson,H&D,etc are making spectacular guitars for less money.

Gentlemen, friends.................... don't lose sight of the law of supply and demand. Many customs builders are under large demand.

Example: My friend Dudenbostel now charges $15k for his mandolins. He has an eight year backlog. The prices are not set. Two of his mandolins sold, used, this week for $22.5k.

It's simply supply and demand. imhohank

Most of the small custom builders I know have built up an incredible demand because of the very nature and quality of their work. Often you get a level of personal attention from the builder that is missing from the larger makers.

Believe me to get that same quality and attention from Martin or Gibson you will pay as much or more.

These instruments should be bought because they supply the needed quality and tone that you desire, not as future investments. Very few things in life come with a guarenteed monetary return clause and it should not be a prime consideration when buying one.

It does seem that there is a very good market for used quality Boutique Acoustics, though, and I would expect a Huss and Dalton for example to fetch a good price on the open market.

There will always be good resale on well made quality instruments. It's just a matter of finding someone who wants what you are getting rid of.

Of course there is a resale, but it is a smaller market by nature. You have to find a buyer.

As far as getting your money back when you sell, again I'll ask, How many utility things can you buy that guarantee you a return upon resale? If it is an emergency and you have to sell fast or quick, your gonna lose some equity.
If you have the time to wait, you can find a motivated buyer. Lust being the prime motivation.

I reread the first three posts and I didn't see anything about Crisis sales, only a question as to whether newer boutique builders were too expensive, did I read it wrong?

yes i said are they xpensive! then i said if you had to sell can you get your money back? and especially in a Crisis sale are you gonna get killed on the resale???

I think you would get killed in any crisis sale, with most things.
