If I do lower the action (I hate to "mess" with the guitar as it sounds so sweet), what kind of tone difference will I hear(if any)?
I don't play hard, mostly finger picking and light strumming, so I don't think fret buzz will be a problem but it is a concern (with the lower action). Any opinions and /or advice? Thanks in advance!

Some say lower action results in lower volume. I've got to agree somewhat. I'd lower the action at nut and saddle to get the set up you like. You can always redo the nut and saddle to raise the action later.

When I lowered my D-15 action, I had a really good luthier custom make a bone nut and saddle for the guitar. It is the best $115.00 I've ever spent. Consider having a reaaly good bone set made. The sound and action are just fantastic on mine. You can order drop-ins from Tusq for about $20 also.

Did your volume decrease?
I have found this to often be the case with lowered action.
