I usually enjoy a burbon and coke or nice margarita on the rocks, but I've been playing bartender lately. The margaritas are killer with fresh lime juice, tequila and triple sec. I bought a juicer just for this and they are awesome! I'm trying my hand at martini's right now. I just did stoli, vermouth and olives. Not bad and I think I'll make another.

What's your favorite mixed beverage?

Who's got a good recipe?

margarita - tequila, fresh lime juice, & triple sec or cointreau. SHAKEN and straind into a chilled glass with a dusting of salt on the rim.

gold&diet - local dark rum with diet coke

gold&tonic - same as above but with tonic water and a bit of fresh lime

martini - still looking for the perfect one. mine is 3 1/2 oz vodka (stoli, absolut, skye, or grey goose), enough vermouth to "coat" the inside of a frosted martini glass. severl very large green olives stuffed with blue cheese and allowed to roll around in a small amount of vermouth. put the vodka and about a teaspoon full of olive juice in a stainless shaker. add cracked ice and shake the living shit out ot for at least 45 seconds. strain this mixture into the "oated" & chilled martini glass. add olives to taste. make the next one because you will want (think you need ;>) ) another before the 1st one is gone.

have given up on scotch, bourbon (except i still have a taste of rye now & again), & gin.

Howdy!

My main ingredient of destruction for the last year or two has been the vodka martini, made from only premium vodka (Belvedere, Chopin, Vox, Grey Goose, etc., no rubbing-alcohol or well brands), little or no vermouth, lemon twist instead of an olive, with the absolute holy hell shaken out of it. After vodka selection, being sufficiently cold is the next most important thing. Ice should be forming on the outside of the shaker, and even on the martini glass itself if done well.

I worked in Portland, OR for a few weeks about two years ago, and at the bar I'd go to (Jake's, Governor Hotel), they had a specialty drink called "Spanish Coffee" or something similar. Line the rim of a glass coffee mug with sugar, pour in ungodly amounts of Kahlua and other liquers, add the obligatory splash of coffee, set on fire, and serve. The heat melts the sugar around the rim (and your eyebrows too, if you forget to blow it out before drinking), and the drink puts you on your ear. It could be twenty degrees, windy, and snowing outside, but you would be warm, warm, warm.

Most nights, though, I just have a couple of Guinnesses, or a couple glasses of wine. I love finding $9 bottles that rival the $40 ones.
