My wife and I took a quick drive to Buffalo this morning. After stopping at ALL HER stores(I made sure she spent so she could not raise an eyebrow as we stopped at MY store) we stopped at Guitar Center.
I got 10 sets of D'Addario XL for $30.00 and a Boss DS1 for $40.00.
That would have cost me at least $140.00 plus 15% tax in Canada.
BUT some guitars (the expensive ones) are more expensive at that store than in Canada.
EG. Martin 00028 $1,999.00 at GC. in US $.
$2,300.00 in Can in Can $.
PRS CU22 with Birds and 10 Top $2,700.00 at GC in US $
$3,500.00 in Can in Can $
There were no new LPs for me to compare with. Lots of used though.
Now for less expensive guitars Guitar Center wins hands down.
Fender Am Dlx Strat $1,125.00 at GC in US $
$ 1,750.00 in Can in Can $
Fender MIM Classic 50's Strat $529.00 at GC in US $
$899.00 in can in Can $
Some Higher Priced amps are less expensive in Canada
Marshall TSL 122 $1,700.00 at GC in USA $
$2,100 in Can in Can $
Moral of the story both USA cutomers and Can Customers should look on both sides of the border before you buy.
Now if we are talking Historic LP's you have to shop in USA. The selection is very poor in Toronto and from what other Canadians have indicated the selection in the rest of Canada is not much better.
Almost all effects are MUCH cheaper in the USA.
