I worked at the Cafe Wah in 1968,1969 when groups like the Kangaroo, Buckwheat, Bo Grumpus were there. Right after Hendrix played and John Sebastian could be seen walking around the village. Anyone sround from those times? I would love to hear from you. I have been in touch with Jim Colkgrove from Bo Grumps.I now ive in Seattle but will be returning to the East Coast in the fall! Hope to hear from someonr.

I had no idea there was an actual club called Cafe Wah.
Cool.Welcome aboard.:ola
Can't help you with your question because in '68 and '69 I was 4 and 5 years old.

Our forum's name is a play on spelling from the "REAL" club in NYC - Cafe Wha? - playing on the "Wha" as opposed to the "Wah". We've gotten inquiriesfrom many who mis-spell it - and come here thinking they are contacting the club. I've forwarded reservation requests and inquiries about entertainment to the club. ;)

I'm from a bit before you. I used to hang out at Cafe Rienzi, the Fat Black Pussycat, the Kettle of Fish, and Gerde's in the early '60s. Back then, Cafe Wha was a tourist trap, one that no self-respecting hipster would enter. Thirdside or Gaslite were about the only touristy joints that were sufficiently cool.

People I hung with back then included Richie Weiner, Steve Arkin, Josh Rifkin, Maria D'Amato (now Muldaur), Danny Kalb, Dylan, and Johnny Herald. Belonged to the Friends of Old Time Music, was allowed to speak to Van Ronk now & then. We did not play no rock & roll.
