Nelson, that looks pretty cool. The back looks darker than normal for some reason.Nelson I was confused, for some reason I misread your other thread and thought you were asking about a J-200 maple, silly me.That guitar is probably worth more than $2100, I would say for a mint condtion one I would pay around $2500-$2700 for a Koa J-200.I had a new 2002/J-200 koa quoted out at $3300.The new J-200 koa I played was very killer, the koa compliments the jumbo body size very well.
Very good looking. The koa appears somewhat darker as gazza said. I'll bet that's just in the quality of the photo.
Since that guitar was made, Gibson has started using the "correct" '50's bridge........ where there's pearl in front of the bridge pins and behind. Go to Gibson's website to see what I refer to.
I'll try to post a photo later.
This would not affect sound/value, etc. good choice hank
Here's a body shot of my SJ200 ('02). Note the bridge pearl as described above. Just different. peacehank
Also, note the "wear" on the pickguard. It wore off within the first two weeks that I had it. Gibson Montana, to its credit, supplied me with a mint guard for future use/sale. thankyougibson!
Please, do not ask me to describe the unbelievable tone of this monster. hee hee

A good thing! Most koa guitars to me have a brighter sound, koa is definitley something you have to test drive to determine whether you like it or not.I like koa so much I'm suprised I don't own somethign made of it.
koa is "tweener" wood.
it's 'tween rosewood and mahogany. I find it quite amazing. I had an early '90's D37K (koa) for a couple of days and enjoyed it. I got it in a trade so I planned to move it.
I'd always prefer to feel/hear it in person first or have return privileges. hank
